This banana cookie might be the softest, most “bread like” cookie on the menu. It’s made with butter and shortening, ground cloves and cinnamon, and plenty of fresh bananas. Once cooled, it’s topped with a browned butter frosting and lightly dusted with some more cinnamon on top. If you’re a fan of banana bread, you will LOVE this cookie!
Altus, Oklahoma is located in the southwestern part of the state and it serves as the county seat for Jackson County. The original community was formed in 1886, but was known as Frazer. A flood nearly wiped the community out in 1891, at which point it was moved to higher ground 2.5 miles east and one resident suggested renaming the town Altus, which is Latin for “high”, and the name stuck. Now, Altus is NOT known for growing bananas, but banana trees do grow in areas with warmer temperatures, and Altus does hold the record of having the hottest temperature recorded in our states history when it hit a high of 120 degrees Fahrenheit on August 12, 1936.
